John Lennon + Darby Crash

George was my favorite Beatle, but since today is December 8, the 28th Anniversary of John Lennon's assasination (what an ugly word) it's only right to recognize one of the most influential figures of our time. He was controversial, passionate, brilliantly talented and because of that equally hated as much as he was loved.

On the same day that John Lennon was shot and killed, an insecure kid from Los Angeles, named Darby Crash intentionaly took his life by way of a drug overdose. Darby, the infectious frontman of the cult punk band from L.A., The Germs was musically not as well known as John Lennon, but was a genius of lyrics and performance in his own rite. For a 17-year old kid, he wrote some of the most intelligent punk lyrics of the day. One of my favorites is after the jump... R.I.P. Darby and John.
I came into this world As a puzzled panther
Waitng to be caged
But something stood in the way
I was never quite tamed
Crossed paths of right and wrong
Saw them take their toll
I saw the armies march
And like animals they crawled
Evolution is a process
Too slow to save my soul
Ive got this creature on my back
It just wont let go
If i am only an animal
Then i can do no wrong
But they say something better
So ive got to hang on
